The Planets and You (Astrology Basics)

A brief overview of the planets, and what they rule in Astrology.

The Sun, ruler of Leo: our ego/most authentic self, and how we act. It’s the style in which we leave our mark on the world.

The Moon, ruler of Cancer: the mother energy of the signs, it is our intuition, unconscious thoughts, and emotions. How we instinctually react.

Mercury, ruler of Gemini and Virgo: as the messenger of astrology it represents how we communicate and the way we’re mentally stimulated. People generally meet your mercury sign first.

Venus, ruler of Taurus and Libra: is the planet of love and money. It’s how we approach romantic relationships, how we attract others, and what we find attractive.

Mars, ruler of Aries: the planet of passion, sexuality, instincts, drive, and action. It’s our raw emotions that derive how direct and self-assertive you are.

Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius: a planet of expansion, luck, and intelligence. This placement shows mental and spiritual growth, as well as how we trust others and improve our lives.

Saturn, ruler of Capricorn: the planet of restriction, structure, meaning, and purpose. It is the planet of fatherhood energy and one that shows how we establish boundaries, our fears, and our sense of responsibility.

Uranus, ruler of Aquarius: the rebellious energy that is made to go against tradition and move toward innovation and enlightenment. This placement shows in what ways we’re meant to stir up the world and make changes.

Neptune, ruler of Pisces: the planet of spirituality, psychic abilities, inspiration, dreams, and imagination. The individual house shows what spiritual and psychic gifts you have, and also how much of a creative dreamer you are.

Pluto, ruler of Scorpio: as the ruler of all below the surface, this is the planet of transformation, rebirth, and deeper meaning. It shines a light on our shadows and what we’re here to transform/overcome.
